Hair treatment at Rene Furterer

I bought a copy of May's Female magazine, one of Malaysian's premier women magazine and found a booklet full of vouchers. One of these vouchers was for a free hair treatment at the upmarket and exclusive Rene Furterer hair treament place at the Pavilion , Bukit Bintang. On calling to find out more, I discovered I was one of the lucky 35 people so I could have my hair done for free.
I had my hair done by Carmen, who spoke little limited English but who was a genius when it came to massages and the treatment. The treatment was sooooo nice with all essential oils and aromatherapy for both the scalp and the senses and my hair felt so soft after that. Wow..

Dressing Up Problems

We do have a problem here in Malaysia. It seems that most of the dress retailers here in Malaysia thinks all Malaysians are very petite and small sized.

Me, I am 5'6" and a UK Size 12, I think I am lucky enough to be able to get away sometimes as I can still fit into some Size Ls or Size XLs here from local shops here in Malaysia.

The other day someone was blogging in the newspaper about being a Size 16 and finding it so hard to find clothes(whereas she could find size 16 and even size 20 clothings in Mango overseas) and even as a size 12, I have that problem.

I can't even go to MNG/Mango and find a pair of jeans or pants that I can fit in. Come to think about it, I do sometimes have problems getting clothes in G2000, GAP,Raoul and Zara as well, which otherwise, overseas, one can find an abundance of sizes.

Perhaps the Size 00 phenomenon is starting here already. The bigger size people are all forced to wear men's clothes or suffer limited choices in clothings. There is no place for fat people or even those born with a bigger frame. And at these our kids get shunned and criticized whenever they are "bigger". Everyone have to learn to be a stick insect or die trying. I personally know of a few teenagers who are taking pills and such to be slim or suffer people caling them 'fat'.

Sigh...

My craft..

I made these bookmarks for a Swap-Bot swap... What do you think...

A delicious treat for myself from The Loaf

I was at Pavilion yesterday, a new upmarket mall in KL, for a FREE hair treatment at the Rene Furterer, and well, after that, I popped into a premier bakery and got some goodies for myself and my family. Strawberry danish, a chocolate something (forgot what it is called and half a dozen cute U Hu Hu cheesecakes!!!
:o)

Stress management.......

"Before you return home tonight, put the burden of work down. Don't carry it home".

A lecturer, when explaining stress management to an audience, raised a glass of water and asked, "how heavy is this glass of water?" Answers called out ranged from 20g to 500g. The lecturer replied, "The absolute weight doesn't matter. It depends on how long you try to hold it."

"If I hold it for a minute, that's not a problem. If I hold it for an hour, I'll have an ache in my right arm. If I hold it for a day, you'll have to call an ambulance. "In each case, it's the same weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes."

He continued, "And that's the way it is with stress management. If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later, as the burden becomes increasingly heavy, we won't be able to carry on." "As with the glass of water, you have to put it down for a while and rest before holding it again. When we're refreshed, we can carry on with the burden."

"So, before you return home tonight, put the burden of work down. Don't carry it home. You can pick it up tomorrow. Whatever burdens you're carrying now, let them down for a moment if you can." "Relax; pick them up later after you've rested. Life is short. Enjoy it!"

And then he shared..

Ways to deal with the stressors of life

1. Accept that some days you're the pigeon, and some days you're the statue.

2. Always keep your words soft and sweet, just in case you have to eat them.

3. Always read stuff that will make you look good if you die in the middle of it.

4.. If you can't be kind, at least have the decency to be vague.

5. If you lend someone $20 and never see him again, it was probably worth it.

6. Never buy a car you can't push.

7. If you put both feet in your mouth at once, you won't have a leg to stand on.

8. Who cares if you can't dance? Just get up and dance.

9. If everything's coming your way, you may be in the wrong lane.

10. You're just one person in the world, but you may be the world to one person.

11. A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour.

12. Kids learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names, and all are different colors, but they all live in the same box.

Lady luck is often on my side..

One thing I must admit is that though my life was crappy and I have experienced lots of bad things and bad experience, lady luck still smiles at me. I've never been hungry and I've always had a "guardian angel" somewhere looking out for me and helping me out of many scrapes I found myself in whether self made or otherwise.
And another thing is I am lucky when it comes to winning contest or getting some lucky draw prize and such. Of course, it's not everytime I get to win, but I think, I've been blessed by lady luck and well, over the years I've won most of the luxury items I have.. Now that I'm looking back and recounting whatever I've won, it is a lot and would value over RM20 grand in total.
Let's see.. There's that OSIM iGallop, Ogawa Chi Master Massage chair, there was that Nokia communicator, Fitness Concept Exercise Bike, countless Estee Lauder, RMK and other cosmetic or skin or hair care hampers, cash, hotel stays at Pangkor Laut Resort and Sheraton Subang, watches(Swatch, solvil titus), shopping vouchers, countless bottles of perfume(I must admit 50% of the perfume I use are mostly won in contests), etc, etc, etc..
And well, my family members enjoy my gifts.. Well, nothing better then sharing what we have especially when there's more sometimes right??
Thank you so much lady luck or God for blessing me with so much free stuff.. Keep it coming.. And like a friend mentioned and I'm also wishing and hoping.. The next big win will be more cold hard cash, a nice home for myself or maybe a nice car.. Hehehe..

The importance of financial planning..

So many of us do not know the impact of NOT having a financial plan. So many of us just take things for granted. Myself included.
Do you know that by the time you retire, even if you are lucky to have $300,000 which many of us don't even have in the savings or EPF(employees provident fund) it is barely enough to keep us in comfort to old age.. Presuming your lifestyle is at $3000 (with inflation-it will be a paltry amount then ), $300,000 will only last you for about 100 months which is equivalent to 8 years. In Malaysia , we retire by age 55, so plus 8 years our money can only last us to 63 years old!!
When I tell my friends or clients that, many of them tell me that's good enough. That's the problem with us since we never seem to think long term.
If we are lucky, and we go off by then, thank God.. But what if we are still alive and sick and have medical problems and so on.
The easiest answer is : "never mind, got children, let children take care of us. "
Sigh, when will we realize that we can not rely on the kids. Even now, think back, how much can we afford to give our parents. Is it even enough if our kids give that same amount to us in the future.
To be honest, I can't even give my own mother a lot of money as I have so many other commitments and things to pay and bills. I definitely do not wish to burden my kids with my financial problems when they are struggling themselves to make ends meet. It would be good enough if they do not turn back and ask us money.
My mom is undergoing cancer treatment at present moment and it's no joke, the amount of money I have to cough up to pay. In less then a year her bills have exceeded $10,000 and that being in goverment subsidised hospitals! I can't even begin to imagine how much her bills would cost if we were in private. That has definitely eaten into my own financial planning and thrown me lots of debts to pay which in a way I am obligated to since she is my mother and I happen to be her only child, but to tell the truth, there are many times I feel bitter about it. And that is a feeling I can't suppress since what had happened between my mother and me when I was small.
But what I'm blogging about here is about the importance of having a financial plan, even no matter how small. We should start something and add on to it whenever and however we can for the comfort of our retirement..

Swine Flu.... Just sharing...

What is swine flu?
The Health Ministry (MOH), Singapore yesterday released information on swine flu.

What is swine flu?
It is a respiratory disease affecting pigs that is caused by type A influenza virus. Most outbreaks occur during the late fall and winter months, similar to influenza outbreaks in humans.

Does it affect humans?
Swine flu viruses very rarely affect humans. However, sporadic human infections with swine flu have occurred. These cases commonly occur in people with direct exposure to pigs.

How does it spread to humans?
It spreads to humans mainly through contact with infected pigs.

Can people catch swine flu from eating pork?
There is currently no evidence to suggest that swine flu can be transmitted to humans from eating pork or pork products that have been thoroughly cooked.

What are the symptoms?
The symptoms of swine flu are similar to the symptoms of regular influenza. An early symptom is high fever, and this is followed by cough, sore throat, runny nose, and sometimes breathlessness a few days later.

How can the infections be diagnosed?
A respiratory specimen would be collected within the first four to five days of illness, when the infected person is most likely to be shedding the virus. However, some, especially children, may shed the virus for 10 days or longer.

What medications are available to treat the infection?
There are four different antiviral drugs that are licensed for use in Singapore: amantadine, rimantadine, oseltamivir and zanamivir. While most swine flu viruses have been susceptible to all four drugs, the most recent swine flu viruses isolated from humans are resistant to amantadine and rimantadine. At this time, the US CDC recommends the use of oseltamivir (Tamiflu) or zanamivir (Relenza) for the treatment and/or prevention of infection with swine flu viruses.

What is MOH doing to ensure that the disease is not transmitted here?
A medical alert has been sent out to all medical practitioners and health-care institutions to update them on the outbreak of swine flu in the United States and Mexico. When the situation warrants, MOH will step up public health measures, such as quarantine of contacts, issuing public health advisories, and working with other government agencies to screen visitors at Singapore's border checkpoints. MOH also has an influenza pandemic preparedness plan in the event of a pandemic situation.

Is it safe to visit countries with cases of swine flu and will I be quarantined when I return?
What travel precautions should I take?
There are currently no travel restrictions or quarantine advised by the World Health Organisation. If you intend to travel to areas which have cases of swine flu, you should:- Avoid contact with persons with symptoms of influenza- Avoid crowded areas- Observe good personal and environmental hygiene- Maintain good body resistance

What should I do if I suspect I have swine flu after returning to Singapore?
You should consult your doctor immediately and inform the doctor that you had recently travelled to areas which have cases of swine flu.

What should I do if I fall ill overseas?
You should consult a doctor as soon as possible and refrain from travelling until you are certified fit by the doctor.

Does influenza vaccination help in preventing swine flu?
There is no vaccine to protect humans from swine flu. The seasonal influenza vaccine is unlikely to protect against H1N1 swine flu viruses..

Is it safe to come into contact with live pigs in nature reserves and the wildlife reserves?
So far, there are no known cases of swine flu in Singapore. However, proper hygiene practices, such as washing of hands after contact with animals, including pigs, should be maintained.

Take care and keep safe...

I really love this song...

Miley Cyrus is cute and for the younger people but I can't resist this song... and it's just soooo motivating...

The Climb
Songwriters: Alexander, J; Mabe, J;

I can almost see it
That dream I am dreaming
But there's a voice inside my head saying
"You'll never reach it"

Every step I'm taking
Every move I make feels
Lost with no direction
My faith is shaking

But I gotta keep trying
Gotta keep my head held high

There's always gonna be another mountain
I'm always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be a uphill battle
Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose
Ain't about how fast I get there
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb

The struggles I'm facing
The chances I'm taking
Sometimes might knock me down
But no, I'm not breaking
I may not know it

But these are the moments that
I'm gonna remember most, yeah
Just gotta keep going
And I, I got to be strong
Just keep pushing on'

Cause there's always gonna be another mountain
I'm always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be a uphill battle
Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose
Ain't about how fast I get there
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb, yeah!

There's always gonna be another mountain
I'm always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be an uphill battle
Somebody's gonna have to lose

Ain't about how fast I get there
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb, yeah!

Keep on moving, keep climbing
Keep the faith, baby
It's all about, it's all about the climb
Keep the faith, keep your faith, whoa

Berita ...

"Kerja saya terjejas teruk. Jika dulu pendapatan mencecah RM20,000 tetapi sekarang jauh merosot, malah pernah dapat tidak sampai RM2,000 sebulan. Apabila hendak jumpa orang, saya malas pergi apabila tiba masanya.

Katak, oh Katak....( Frog, oh Frog )

OTHER COMMON NAMES
German: Indischer Ochsenfrosch; Spanish: Microhilido asiático.
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS
This species is rather large for a microhylid, up to 3 in (75 mm) long. The body is rotund, with a blunt, rounded snout; the legs are short and stout. The hind feet have a projecting "spade" on the sole just anterior to the heel; the toes are only slightly webbed.
DISTRIBUTION
The native range is from southern China through Indochina to Sumatra. The species' presence in Borneo and Sulawesi is thought to be due to introductions, probably inadvertent. Kaloula taprobanica, once considered to be a subspecies of K. pulchra, ranges from northeastern India to Sri Lanka, so frogs of this sort are widespread.
HABITAT
The Malaysian painted frog is unusual, in that it is abundant in human settlements but is not found in undisturbed habitats.
The frogs take shelter in burrows, rubbish heaps, and the like. This association with people may explain spotty occurrences out of the apparent natural range.
BEHAVIOR
This is a secretive, terrestrial frog that utilizes the spadelike structures (metatarsal tubercles) on its hind feet to burrow backward into the soil. It is most likely to be seen when congregating to breed.
FEEDING ECOLOGY AND DIET
Ants constitute most of the diet, along with other small insects.
REPRODUCTIVE BIOLOGY
Breeding takes place only when heavy rains fill ditches and other temporary sources of water. There the males float high in the water, giving loud, honking calls. Their rounded shape is exaggerated even more when they inflate while floating and calling. In such ephemeral habitats, larval growth typically is rapid, but it may not be fast enough to reach completion before the water dries up.
CONSERVATION STATUS
Not threatened.
Hmmm.. why am I blogging about a frog? Well.. this frog is a real nuisance in my home. I always seem to find one around in my garden or even INSIDE my house!!! And it's so hard to chase it out.
And yesterday, my husband came home and told me HORROR stories concerning THIS frog!!!
It seems that this frog can be agressive and BITE!!! And when it bites, it will cling on to whatever it bites no matter what you do to it, or even if you kill it.
My husband was telling me they know of two TRUE stories already concerning this frog BITING humans.
The first story was of a woman who happen to wanted to pee so badly, so she went to some bushes and peed. She mush have peed on that frog. The frog bit her private parts and refused to let go. Her agonizing screams was heard as some people found her in that mortifying state in pain. They had to rush her to the hospital as the frog just refused to budge where they killed the frog and cut it into two and even in death, it still had a 'death grip' until the surgeons removed the fangs from the poor woman's private parts.
The second story happened to my neighbour's wife who was trying to kick the frog out of her house. It turned on her and bit her leg and like the first story, it's bite was a 'death grip' . Despite my neighbour hitting the frog with a broom or even killing it, it simply won't let go. My neighbour's wife was then rushed to the hospital for them to removed the stubborn frog.
These stories really give me the creeps.
Bad enough I have occasional snakes and centipedes paying me visits. Now a biting frog??? God help me!!!!

Some of My Favourite Movies...

In the glamorous world of New York City, Rebecca Bloomwood (Isla Fisher) is a fun-loving girl who is really good at shopping – a little too good, perhaps. She dreams of working for her favorite fashion magazine, but can’t quite get her foot in the door – until ironically, she snags a job as an advice columnist for a financial magazine published by the same company. As her dreams are finally coming true, she goes to ever more hilarious and extreme efforts to keep her past from ruining her future
The film is the story of Jamal Malik, an 18 year-old orphan from the slums of Mumbai, who is about to experience the biggest day of his life. With the whole nation watching, he is just one question away from winning a staggering 20 million rupees on India’s “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?”
But when the show breaks for the night, police arrest him on suspicion of cheating; how could a street kid know so much? Desperate to prove his innocence, Jamal tells the story of his life in the slum where he and his brother grew up, of their adventures together on the road, of vicious encounters with local gangs, and of Latika, the girl he loved and lost. Each chapter of his story reveals the key to the answer to one of the game show’s questions

Sauron's forces have laid siege to Minas Tirith, the capital of Gondor, in their efforts to eliminate the race of men. The once-great kingdom, watched over by a fading steward, has never been in more desperate need of its king. But can Aragorn (Mortensen) answer the call of his heritage and become what he was born to be? In no small measure, the fate of Middle-earth rests on his broad shoulders. With the final battle joined and the legions of darkness gathering, Gandalf (McKellen) urgently tries to rally Gondor's broken army to action. He is aided by Rohan's King Theoden (Hill), who unites his warriors for history's biggest test. Yet even with their courage and passionate loyalty, the forces of men--with Eowyn (Otto) and Merry (Monaghan) hidden among them--are no match for the enemies swarming against Gondor. Still, in the face of great losses, they charge forward into the battle of their lifetimes, tied together by their singular goal to keep Sauron distracted and give the Ring Bearer a chance to complete his quest. Their hopes rest with Frodo (Wood), a tiny but determined hobbit making a perilous trip across treacherous enemy lands to cast the One Ring into the fires of Mount Doom. The closer Frodo gets to his final destination, the heavier his burden becomes and the more he must rely on Samwise Gamgee (Astin). Gollum-and the Ring itself-will test Frodo's allegiances and, ultimately, his humanity. "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" concludes the epic story of these characters, their relationships and rivalries, and reveals how through courage, commitment and determination even the least of us can change the world.
The pivotal fourth novel in the seven-part tale of Harry Potter's training as a wizard and his coming of age. Harry wants to get away from the pernicious Dursleys and go to the International Quidditch Cup with Hermione, Ron, and the Weasleys. He wants to dream about Cho Chang, his crush (and maybe do more than dream). He wants to find out about the mysterious event that's supposed to take place at Hogwarts this year, an event involving two other rival schools of magic, and a competition that hasn't happened for a hundred years. He wants to be a normal, fourteen-year-old wizard. Unfortunately for Harry Potter, he's not normal, even by wizarding standards. And in his case, different can be deadly

The film centers on a man who, at age 50, begins aging backward and the complications that ensue when he falls in love with a woman of 30. "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" is a 1922 short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The protagonist 'Benjamin Button' is born as a feeble old man, and ages in reverse until he becomes a baby at the end of his life.

Chloe (voice of DREW BARRYMORE), a diamond-clad, bootie wearing Beverly Hills Chihuahua enjoys her luxurious lifestyle so much, she hardly notices Papi (voice of GEORGE LOPEZ), a tough looking Chihuahua who happens to be head-over-paws for the pampered pooch. But when Chloe gets lost in the rough streets of Mexico with only a street-wise German Shepherd (voice of ANDY GARCIA) to help her find her way home, Papi heads south of the border -- joining forces with a motley crew: two humans (PIPER PERABO, MANOLO CARDONA), a sly rat (voice of CHEECH MARIN) and a nervous iguana (voice of PAUL RODRIGUEZ) - to rescue his true love.
Meryl Streep leads an all-star cast in the feature-film adaptation of the beloved musical that has been seen by more than 30 million people in 160 cities and 8 languages around the world. Bringing the timeless lyrics and melodies of iconic super group ABBA to movie audiences, Summer 2008 is the season for Mamma Mia! The three women who created the worldwide smash stage hit-global producer Judy Craymer, writer Catherine Johnson and director Phyllida Lloyd-repeat their roles in bringing this joyful, musical story to the big screen. The Mamma Mia! film is produced by Judy Craymer and Gary Goetzman.Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgård, Christine Baranski, Julie Walters, Amanda Seyfried and Dominic Cooper join Streep in this celebration of a mother, a daughter and three possible dads. An independent, single mother who owns a small hotel on an idyllic Greek island, Donna (Streep) is about to let go of Sophie (Amanda Seyfried), the spirited daughter she's raised alone. For Sophie's wedding, Donna has invited her two lifelong best girlfriends-practical and no-nonsense Rosie (Julie Walters) and wealthy, multi-divorcee Tanya (Christine Baranski)-from her one-time backing band, Donna and the Dynamos. But Sophie has secretly invited three guests of her own. On a quest to find the identity of her father to walk her down the aisle, she brings back three men from Donna's past to the Mediterranean paradise they visited 20 years earlier. Over 24 chaotic, magical hours, new love will bloom and old romances will be rekindled on this lush island full of possibilities. Inspired by the storytelling magic of ABBA's songs from "Dancing Queen" and "S.O.S." to "Money, Money, Money" and "Take a Chance on Me," Mamma Mia! is a celebration of mothers and daughters, old friends and new family found.

About vampires.. Things that go bump in the night..

I just finished watching Keliwon, a local drama series specializing in spooky stories here in Malaysia..
It's in Bahasa Malaysia, and today's episode was about a very pretty girl who was in love with a boy, this girl's name is Suri, and she started working for the boy's dad. Now this old man was a pervert. He sent his son away one day, got into an argument with his wife who was bedridden and paralysed and killed her. Then he got some men to grab Suri, bring her to him and he raped her and killed her.
Soon after, one of the men who grabbed her ended up killed, strangled to death and had blood sucked out of him. One of the relative, a religious man tried to protect his relatives.
The son came back and tried to find his lady love only to realise she was a vengeful ghost out to settle her score on the people who had caused her death.
Finally, she got her revenge and killed the old man who killed her, before sadly apologizing and telling her love that she can't be with him as they were now of two different worlds..
When that show was over I switched channels and came across True Blood, a series depicting vampires as well..
I was just thinking about how different vampires seem to be..
The malay vampires are all female.. Never seen a male one. She has long hair, a pale face, wears a white gown and she flys. She loves perching on trees and sometimes she loves jumping or shrieking with laughter.
The chinese vampires as depicted by movies seem to jump all the time, wearing a black robe.
The western vampires seem so romantic.. Hmm.. And wears really cool outfits.. Check out Twilight, True Blood, Queen of the Damned, Interview with a Vampire or even Underworld..
Wonder what other sort of Vampires are there in other places.. Hehe he.. Anyone want to share?

Being married = )

Being married to my husband is one of the best things I've ever done in my life. It is also a huge turning point. He is my pillar of strenght and he never gives up on me. We have a wonderful understanding where we both allow each other to do whatever we want most of the time just as long as we know where our limits are.My husband is all I can dream of even is he's not handsome as Brad Pitt of Beckham.. He's understanding, caring, loving, my cheerleader, he keeps me in line but allows me the freedom to do what I want and go where I want most of the time.

He is also such a great father to his children and my children can never find a more caring and loving step father and they know it. Sometimes, they have the audacity to confide in my husband things they won't even tell me .

I am blessed to have him in my life.

If you are reading this, Dzul Rashidi, thank you for being my soulmate and the love of my life.. I love you so dearly...

Down memory lane...-Ireland..

I've been to Ireland twice already. Once when I was but 9 years old, and the other time , about 7 years ago. Ireland is one of my most favourite countries in the world. I find it magical, mystical and mesmerizing. I hope someday I will return to see it again.

I really loved all the ruins and also old abbeys, tombs and such...Truly fascinating..
