New Job Woes:Clues that Your New Job was a Mistake

Two hours into my first professional job, my new boss introduced me to a group as "Lauren, who worked at company X for seven years." I looked at her funny and said I'd never worked there. "My God!" she shrieked, "I hired the wrong person!"

First day on the job, the boss asks you to write down your list of hobbies, because he wants to hand them back at the end of the year, to remind you of what you used to do when you had free time.

At the end of your first week of work, enough "old timers" have quit that you have the most seniority in your department.

corporate office cubicles

When I came in the second day my new boss looked at me and gleefully said "Oh good! You came back!!"

The guy who hired you is fired the next day.

When you actually know all there is to know by day two, and your co-workers are asking you for instructions.

"Sorry, we forgot you were starting today. Here is a folding chair and table. We'll try to get you a phone by next week."

10 Things It Took Me 35 Years to Learn

Never take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.

There can be a fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

You should never confuse your career with your life.

No matter what happens in life, somebody will find a way to take it too seriously.

Nobody cares if you can't dance well. Just get up and dance.

Never lick a steak knife.

Take out the fortune before you eat the cookie.

The most destructive force in the universe is gossip.

Nobody can give me a clear and compelling reason why we observe daylight savings time.

A person who is nice to you but rude to the waiter is not a nice person.

Universal Studios Singapore - 7 Themes, 24 Attractions, 18 World Firsts

By Donn Richard
October 2009
Singapore

Pack up the kids, load the wagon and let’s hightail it over to....wait for it....UNIVERSAL STUDIOS Singapore!!!

Can you believe it? A big chunk of California Dreaming plopped right down here in little ol?Singapore!
We haven’t seen excitement like this since the Gold Rush of ?9! And let’s face it; unlike the folks in those times, everyone who’s got their nickel for a ticket is going to strike GOLD!

A great big “thank you?to Resorts World Sentosa for pulling no punches and making their message: “We Are THE Region’s Ultimate Family Destination? truer than tarnation.

Try this on for size. Universal Studios Singapore has announced that it's offering tickets cheaper than any other Universal Studios Theme Park in the World: S$32 for a senior-citizen day pass, S$48 for a child day pass and S$66 for an adult day pass. Some great prices for all Universal Singapore fans out there!

As an added bonus, Universal Studios Singapore has the world’s first and only “Far Far Away Castle?from the world of “Shrek and Madagascar? Donn Richard can just see those kids a hoopin’and a hollerin?to beat the band!

October 20th, in the presence of world media, Resorts World Sentosa unveiled 24 magnificent attractions within 7 unique movie themed zones; 18 of these fantastic attractions never seen before anywhere but at Universal Studios Singapore. Mesmerizing, fast and furious water chases were also held by professional stuntmen of Waterworld - what a show!

Has all the excitement given you a bodacious appetite? Not to worry none - 10 restaurants and dozens of snack carts will be blooming throughout this theme park like Rocky Mountain wildflowers.

Talk about the mother of all Universal Parks!

Had enough yet? Well hold on. Along with the cheapest entry fee of all Universal Studios Parks, it also boasts the largest collection of DreamWorks attractions! Think of it. Save your money AND see the creations of the one and only Steven Spielberg!

This is what RWS’s CEO Mr Tan Hee Teck had to say: “We are excited about our relationship with DreamWorks Animation and Universal Studios Parks & Resorts, and I am sure that many Asian visitors will be too, when they see Universal Studios Singapore bring to life two of DreamWorks Animation’s most successful box-office franchises??beautiful news this is indeed Mr Tan Hee Teck!

There will be 7 movie themed zones at Universal Studios Singapore.

Zone 1: Hollywood Boulevard. This zone is closest to Resorts World at Sentosa’s Monorail Station and “the Strip?and also serves as entrance and exit to the entire Park.

Here you will find a theatre, 6 specialty stores; including Universal Studios' very own flagship store, and two eateries.

One of the park’s biggest indoor theatres is located in this zone. It’s the 1,500 seat “Pantages Hollywood Theater?especially equipped to showcase big musical productions ?Broadway style. You just can’t beat a good Broadway Show.

Zone 2: New York. This great zone will feature a sound and special effects stage, a movie production stage, and two eateries. Well, what did you expect? A great zone for a great city!

Premiering in Singapore: “Lights! Camera! Action - Hosted by Steven Spielberg? Witness New York hit by a major hurricane. Now that I’d like to see!

Then there’s “Stage 28?also making its debut in Singapore. This incredible stage will feature films and props and will allow for a sneak peek behind the scenes of real movie production - Hollywood style. Got a budding director in your brood? Well, what are you waiting for?

Zone 3: Sci-Fi City. Fans of roller coaster rides will love this zone. It will feature the world’s tallest dueling Roller Coasters: “Human?& “Cylon? and “Accelerator?plus “Sci-Fi City??a future metropolis for science-fiction buffs.

Battlestar Gallactica is the next evolution of roller coasters. First, there’s “Human? something we traditionalists will appreciate. Old style, thrilling and well-mannered. Well, as well-mannered as a coaster can be.

Then there’s “Cylon? What can I say. Give this one a wide berth if you’ve got even a hint of heart-trouble. Heck, give this monster a wide berth if you’re just faint-hearted! Suspended, fast...think I’ll leave it to the youngsters.

Unsure of your stamina? Test it on the “Accelerator??the third attraction of Battlestar Gallactica. Don’t forget to check out what awaits you and yours a few years down the road at Sci-Fi City.

And?the surprise of all surprises is?you’ve guessed it: "TRANSFORMERS ?The Ride" ?debuting in 2011; not in the US or Japan, but in Singapore, folks!

Zone 4
: Ancient Egypt. This zone is a must-visit zone for every “Mummy? movie fan. It will feature a vintage car track, the indoors Mummy coaster ride, a souvenir shop and two eateries.

Also home of the world’s favourite mummy. This Mummy will unleash its curse onto every visitor taking the ride of their lives in the “Revenge of the Mummy?Coaster ride, guaranteed to chill the most macho visitor.

“Treasure Hunters?is another of the 18 world premieres. Here you Egyptologists can drive your very own vintage car through rough excavation terrain. Having spent some time in the Land of the Pharaohs, Donn personally guarantees that this here’s the next best thing.

Zone 5: The Lost World. This is a tried and tested two-zone within one zone “Waterworld & Jurassic Park? This gigantic zone, probably the biggest in the park, will feature a stunt show, a rock climb, a dragonfly sky ride, a coaster ride, a water ride, two souvenir shops, and the park’s only food court. Whew!

“Waterworld?stunt show. This show takes place in the outdoor amphitheatre capable of seating 1,014 people. This show is all about death-defying stunts, fast and furious water chases, and thunderous explosions.

Want some serious exploration? The “Amber Rock Climb?will be the attraction for you.

Another world premiere and another attraction that requires some serious exploration, only this time it’s for kids and its high up in the sky. It’s called “Dino-Soarin?- Kids will fly their very own dragonflies!

Another world first also involving some high flying: the “Canopy Flyer? For the young at heart!

Last but not least “Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure? also a world first. Here you board a water raft to an unknown destination in the Jurassic compound.

Zone 6: Far Far Away. This uber exciting zone will feature an interactive live show, a miniature ferriswheel, an Ogre Vision special effects theatre, a roller-coaster, a souvenir shop, and two eateries.

By Golly, can you rightly believe it? My two favourite characters (and I’ll bet yours, too), good ol’Shrek and Donkey will be a settin’there just ready and willin?to say “howdy?

“Enchanted Airways? Here you can enjoy a birds-eye-view of the castle by boarding the junior roller coaster and entering the world of “Shrek? Premiering in Singapore is “Donkey Live? Have you ever interacted with a Donkey? Now is the time. Only here you can do it in an intimate theatre setting!

Yet, another world first,?Magic Potion Spin? specially designed for the younguns, this miniature ferriswheel guarantees a time they will never forget.

Just when you think ENOUGH! Universal Studios Singapore brings you more: “Shrek 4-D Adventure? In the Ogre Vision Special Effects theatre you will be expected to help save Princess Fiona. The question is: can you? Get on over there and find out!

Zone 7: Madagascar. Themed around the DreamWorks animation hit movie that goes by the same name “Madagascar? This zone will feature a carousel, a riverboat adventure, a Madagascar souvenir shop and two eateries.

World’s first “King Julien’s Beach party-Go-Round Carousel?featuring all your favourite Madagascar characters.

Also a world first is the river boat “A Crate Adventure? Here you can board the boat with your friends Gloria, Melman, Marty and Alex for a ride of a lifetime that includes moving show-action effects, special sound effects while watching state-of the-art animated figures digitally projected on a screen.

Lots of thick jungle in the Madagscar zone ?don’t forget your mosquito repellents!

Mr Tan Hee Teck, CEO of Resorts World Sentosa, said: “We are in the final stages of construction, and for those who have had a sneak preview of Universal Studios Singapore taking shape, it has been an unanimous response that this is going to be a ‘must-see?when Resorts World Sentosa opens early next year.’’

“Universal Studios Singapore will be its own unique experience and family destination with many new rides, shows and themes that can’t be found at other Universal Studios parks around the world,?said Tom Williams, chairman and CEO, Universal Parks & Resorts. “Universal’s attention to location-specific creative and design promises to deliver first-time Singapore guests as well as devoted Universal Studios visitors that enjoyed other global locations—an exciting,

Cinnamon and Honey

Honey is the only food on the planet that will not spoil or rot. It will
do what some call turning to sugar. In reality honey is always honey..
However, when left in a cool dark place for a long time it will do what
I rather call "crystallizing" . When this happens I loosen the lid,
boil some water, and sit the honey container in the hot water, turn off
the heat and let it liquefy. It is then as good as it ever was. Never
boil honey or put it in a microwave. To do so will kill the enzymes in
the honey.

Bet the drug companies won't like this one getting around. Facts on
Honey and Cinnamon: It is found that a mixture of honey and Cinnamon
cures most diseases.. Honey is produced in most of the countries of the
world. Scientists of today also accept honey as a 'Ram Ban' (very
effective) medicine for all kinds of diseases. Honey can be used
without any side effects for any kind of diseases.

Today's science says that even though honey is sweet, if taken in the
right dosage as a medicine, it does not harm diabetic patients. Weekly
World News, a magazine in Canada , in its issue dated 17 January,1995
has given the following list of diseases that can be cured by honey and
cinnamon as researched by western scientists:

HEART DISEASES:
Make a paste of honey and cinnamon powder, apply on bread, instead of
jelly and jam, and eat it regularly for breakfast.. It reduces the
cholesterol in the arteries and saves the patient from heart attack.
Also, those who have already had an attack, if they do this process
daily, they are kept miles away from the next attack. Regular use of the
above process relieves loss of breath and strengthens the heart beat.
In America and Canada , various nursing homes have treated patients
successfully and have found that as you age, the arteries and veins lose
their flexibility and get clogged; honey and cinnamon revitalize the
arteries and veins.

ARTHRITIS:
Arthritis patients may take daily, morning and night, one cup of hot
water with two spoons of honey and one small teaspoon of cinnamon
powder. If taken regularly even chronic arthritis can be cured. In a
recent research conducted at the Copenhagen University, it was found
that when the doctors treated their patients with a mixture of one
tablespoon Honey and half teaspoon Cinnamon powder before breakfast,
they found that within a week, out of the 200 people so treated,
practically 73 patients were totally relieved of pain, and within a
month, mostly all the patients who could not walk or move around because
of arthritis started walking without pain.

BLADDER INFECTIONS:
Take two tablespoons of cinnamon powder and one teaspoon of honey in a
glass of lukewarm water and drink it. It destroys the germs in the
bladder.

CHOLESTEROL:
Two tablespoons of honey and three teaspoons of Cinnamon Powder mixed in
16 ounces of tea water, given to a cholesterol patient, was found to
reduce the level of cholesterol in the blood by 10 percent within two
hours. As mentioned for arthritic patients, if taken three times a
day, any chronic cholesterol is cured. According to information received
in the said Journal, pure honey taken with food daily relieves
complaints of cholesterol.

COLDS:
Those suffering from common or severe colds should take one tablespoon
lukewarm honey with 1/4 spoon cinnamon powder daily for three days. This
process will cure most chronic cough, cold, and clear the sinuses..

UPSET STOMACH:
Honey taken with cinnamon powder cures stomach ache and also clears
stomach ulcers from the root.

GAS:
According to the studies done in India and Japan , it is revealed that
if Honey is taken with cinnamon powder the stomach is relieved of gas.

IMMUNE SYSTEM:
Daily use of honey and cinnamon powder strengthens the immune system and
protects the body from bacteria and viral attacks. Scientists have found
that honey has various vitamins and iron in large amounts. Constant use
of Honey strengthens the white blood corpuscles to fight bacterial and
viral diseases.

INDIGESTION:
Cinnamon powder sprinkled on two tablespoons of honey taken before food
relieves acidity and digests the heaviest of meals.

INFLUENZA:
A scientist in Spain has proved that honey contains a natural '
Ingredient' which kills the influenza germs and saves the patient from
flu..

LONGEVITY:
Tea made with honey and cinnamon powder, when taken regularly, arrests
the ravages of old age. Take four spoons of honey, one spoon of cinnamon
powder, and three cups of water and boil to make like tea. Drink 1/4
cup, three to four times a day. It keeps the skin fresh and soft and
arrests old age. Life spans also increase and even a 100 year old,
starts performing the chores of a 20-year-old.

PIMPLES:
Three tablespoons of honey and one teaspoon of cinnamon powder paste.
Apply this paste on the pimples before sleeping and wash it next morning
with warm water.. If done daily for two weeks, it removes pimples from
the root.

SKIN INFECTIONS:
Applying honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts on the affected parts
cures eczema, ringworm and all types of skin infections.

WEIGHT LOSS:
Daily in the morning one half hour before breakfast on an empty stomach,
and at night before sleeping, drink honey and cinnamon powder boiled in
one cup of water. If taken regularly, it reduces the weight of even the
most obese person. Also, drinking this mixture regularly does not allow
the fat to accumulate in the body even though the person may eat a high
calorie diet.

CANCER:
Recent research in Japan and Australia has revealed that advanced cancer
of the stomach and bones have been cured successfully. Patients
suffering from these kinds of cancer should daily take one tablespoon of
honey with one teaspoon of cinnamon powder for one month three times a
day.

FATIGUE:
Recent studies have shown that the sugar content of honey is more
helpful rather than being detrimental to the strength of the body.
Senior citizens, who take honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts, are
more alert and flexible.. Dr. Milton, who has done research, says that a
half tablespoon of honey taken in a glass of water and sprinkled with
cinnamon powder, taken daily after brushing and in the afternoon at
about 3:00 P.M. when the vitality of the body starts to decrease,
increases the vitality of the body within a week.

BAD BREATH:
People of South America , first thing in the morning, gargle with one
teaspoon of honey and cinnamon powder mixed in hot water, so their
breath stays fresh throughout the day.

HEARING LOSS:
Daily morning and night honey and cinnamon powder, taken in equal parts
restores hearing. Remember when we were kids? We had toast with real
butter and cinnamon sprinkled on it!

I am a murderer

Today, I feel like a murderer. I killed a rat.. and I hate it. Well, I did not stab the rat or poisoned it or such but well, I was the executioner.
There had been lots of noises around the house. Things falling over, biscuits, instant noodles, flour being nibbled into and so on. Yeah I was annoyed and I set out the trap , as usual.
I caught a rat before in my old house and it had been huge, but I later got my neighbour's sons to release the critter a short distance away.
I placed some old crab sticks, french fries and also some small bit of half eaten maggi mee /instant noodles in the trap and bingo.. I caught it in the evening..
Hubby said leave the trap outside so we could deal with it in the morning. But morning came and well, MIL got up, swept and mopped the house and ordered me to put the trap out in the sun.
She wanted the critter to suffer and die which I thought was very cruel but well... she overruled my plans of releasing the critter and to avoid confrontation or arguments or such, I did what she said only to feel so bad the whole day, and worse when I came home to find the poor critter dead, baked in the sun until it died.
I just can't stop imagining how the poor critter suffered and it's all because I trapped it and followed what MIL said. Granted, it's a dirty critter and might be diseased but I felt that it was really cruel to have done that to the critter. No matter what people think, I feel like I committed murder. In future I will kindly abstain from trapping the critters... leave it to my MIL or my hubby to trap her/his own critter....

R.I.P poor little rat.... You don't know how sorry I am for my part in this murder....

Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief

Took my daughter Anne and my husband to see Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief today... and hey.. I really enjoyed it..

SYPNOSIS OF THE STORY
It's the 21st century, but the gods of Mount Olympus and assorted monsters have walked out of the pages of high school student Percy Jackson's Greek mythology texts and into his life. And they're not happy: Zeus' lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect. Even more troubling is the sudden disappearance of Percy's mother. As Percy adapts to his newly discovered status as a demi-god (his father is Poseidon), he finds himself caught between the battling titans of Mt. Olympus. He and his friends embark on a cross-country adventure to catch the true lightning thief, save Percy's mom, and unravel a mystery more powerful than the gods themselves.

CLEAN YOUR KIDNEYS WITH LESS THAN $1.00

Years pass by and our kidneys are filtering the blood by removing salt, poison and any unwanted entering our body. With time, the salt accumulates and this needs to undergo cleaning treatments.

How are we going to do this?
It is very easy, first take a bunch of parsley and wash it clean

Then cut it in small pieces and put it in a pot and pour clean water and boil it for ten minutes and let it cool down and then filter it and pour in a clean bottle and keep it inside refrigerator to cool.
Drink one glass daily and you will notice all salt and other accumulated poison coming out of your kidney by urination. Also you will be able to notice the difference which you never felt before.
Parsley is known as best cleaning treatment for kidneys and it is natural!

Sharing with my foreign friends about Chinese New Year

Origins of Chinese New Year

Since Chinese New Year begins on the first day of spring in the Lunar Calendar, Chinese New Year is also widely known as Spring Festival as well, particularly to the Westerners. Though Chinese New year is magnificently celebrated by the Chinese and is now made popular among the non-Chinese as well, not many know the origins of Chinese New Year and what is the significant of celebrating it.

The myth once said that, 'Nian' (meaning year in Chinese) was actually the name of a beast that started to attack the villagers the night before the New Year begins. The beast hid in the village and started attacking them when night falls.

That particular beast was very well known because of its big mouth that is big enough to gulp a bunch of people in a bite. The beast started to attack the villagers and swallowing them. Therefore, the villagers were always afraid towards the end of each year, where the day comes and the beast started to attack them. The villagers had become the prey of the beast.

One fine day, the villagers were rescued by an old man that told the beast to eat the other beasts instead of the innocent villagers. Right after that, the old man was seen riding on the back of the beast and went out of sight. Since then, the old man never appears again.

The villagers then believe that the old man, the savior of their life was actually the God sent down to rescue them. From then onwards, the beast was gone, so do other beasts as well.

Peaceful life of the villagers returned and there's nothing else to be afraid of. With the advice given by the old man, the villagers started to paste red paper decorations on windows and doors to prevent the beast. Just in case the beast came back, the villagers listen to the advice and paste them every year. True to them, the beast never came back again because red is the color that the beast fear most.

Hence, the tradition was passed down from generation to generation and the term 'Guo Nian' is used. 'Guo Nian' literally means survive the year which explains the situation way back in the century perfectly. The villagers survived the year; hence, Chinese New Year is celebrated with red decorations and the playing of firecrackers.

Up to this day, the tradition of decorating the house with red is still in the practice, but many don't have a clue to why red and firecrackers are used during Chinese New Year. People in the modern days did what's in the tradition thinking that, red brings them prosperous.

As long as the tradition carries on, it doesn't matter at all if people know the origins or not. It's the happiness of gathering all the family members that matters the most.

The best way to enjoy the get-to-gather reunion dinner with all your family members is of course, sitting comfortably in a air-conditioned restaurant enjoying your meals together.

Chinese New Year Preparation

Chinese New Year is really just around the corner. The Chinese will definitely be busy running errands to make sure that the Chinese New Year celebration is well prepared. Some may choose to start as early as a month before the celebration which also means the last month in the Lunar Calendar. This way, they get to plan things they need to have for the celebration and slowly distributing the tasks among the family members and then carry them out.

Since Chinese New Year is the most important celebration among the Chinese, the celebration is always a grand one where family members gather around the house to eat, chat and play. Noises are definitely one thing that won't be missed during the celebration. If you are thinking Chinese New Year is only a day or two's celebration or only over the weekend, then you are very wrong.

The Chinese celebrate Chinese New Year for a full 15 days and 16 days if Chinese New Year Eve is counted. But it makes no different because the mood can be felt when shops started selling Chinese New Year goods, restaurant started promoting their Chinese New Year menu, the shopping malls started to have Chinese New Year performance and decorations are on sales. It's the festive season love by everyone.

Let's get rolling on with the preparation needed for Chinese New Year. First in the list is the spring cleaning. Since Chinese New Year is also known as the Spring Festival, spring cleaning is normally used to indicate that the whole house must be thoroughly clean to usher in the brand new year. Every corner of the house will be clean and dust free. Old goods that are not of use anymore, will be thrown away or given out as second hand items. Take it as the yearly charity event for your family.

Then, you can take this opportunity to get brand new furniture or the electrical appliances that you think you need. Start shopping for your home as well.

When cleaning is done, decorate the house with the Chinese New Year decoration, the auspicious home decoration in order to bring your family a prosperous and well being year. The decorations can include paper cut outs, cut outs from red packet, red lanterns, prosperous orange tree, Spring Festival couplets and many more. The orange tree known as 'kum quat' in Cantonese is a favorite among many home decorations. They are usually place in front of the house. 'Kam' sounds similar to gold thus the use of it. It sounds like you are bearing 'gold' when you grow this tree.

The decorations used are mainly symbolic with prosperous and luck where red colors are everywhere in the house. New curtains are usually used as well to refresh your home a little. The reason to have all these decorations is mainly to wish for a better year ahead for everyone in the family and to be blessed. When you are done with all the decorations, the mood for Chinese New Year gets thicker and slowly, you'll hear people playing the Chinese New Year songs from the house.

Not only has the home needed to be new. You yourself need a little change (see what we have for your beauty) as well. The Chinese will normally shop for a few pairs of new clothes and shoes and bags and even accessories to go with it! Checked shopping and now you're on your way for a new hairdo. Everyone needs to look new and fresh to welcome in the New Year. Children will definitely love it as they get to shop for firecrackers as well.

Then comes the busy preparation for a feast. Some bake for the purpose of selling, some bake for the purpose of giving a gift to family and friends. Either way, they still bake. Cookies are always a popular snack in the Chinese New Year besides candies, nuts and crackers. Then, they stock in some important food ingredients to make sure they have a complete kitchen during the Chinese New Year. Stacks of mandarin oranges and beverages are the must have in every household. They need to be prepared to give gifts in return to their guests as well as to serve them.

Then, the Chinese will also be preparing the food list to have during the Chinese New Year's Eve's reunion dinner. It's the time where all the family members really gather together to dine. It does sound similar to the Western's Thanksgiving dinner. Dishes that symbolize prosperity will be prepared and it will all be fun if you manage to get everyone together to help.

Last but not least, prepare the red packets. It has been a tradition in Chinese New Year to give out red packets. The amount of money inserted is not important but the meaning of the act is very important. Red packet is known as 'lai see' in Cantonese and it means lucky money. Usually the adults will prepare the red packets and give it out to the children throughout the Chinese New Year as a blessing.

That's about all the preparation that needed to be done before ushering the first day of the Lunar Calendar. Though it sounds simple, there's actually a lot to be done.

The yes and no/Dos and don'ts of Chinese New Year

Usually there are a lot of so-called rules and regulations to celebrate the Chinese New Year. There will be dos and don'ts that you need to be aware of on certain days during Chinese New Year. All those listed below should be taken note of. Sweeping and cleaning is usually prohibited during the Chinese New Year. It is said that when you clean, you'll tend to sweep away all your luck. Hence, people usually don't clean their house even if it's dirty during the Chinese New Year. Some only restrict that to the first day of Chinese New Year. Even if you really have to sweep the house, then you sweep them to a corner and leave it there. Though it sounds a little superstitious, it's still the tradition that everyone is practicing. Just relax and enjoy your celebration. Don't worry about the cleanliness. That is why people usually spring clean [see also: Chinese New Year Preparation] their home before Chinese New Year. In order to get rid of the unused stuffs and to have a cleaner house to be in and to welcome your guests, clean them before Chinese New Year and put all your cleaning tools in the cupboard when you're done. Similar to washing hair on the first day of Chinese New Year, it is known to most of the Chinese that when you wash your hair, you tend to wash away your luck as well. So, normally, they wash before the reunion dinner and keep it clean throughout the first day. You can also opt for the hair salon services. Get your hair done nicely before Chinese New Year. Next, keep in mind to always make sure you left your windows wide open to enable the breeze to circulate around the house as well as to bring in the luck together with the breeze. Usher in the New Year with a fresher air. There is also a belief that if you owe anyone money, it is best to repay everything before Chinese New Year. Not only money but also everything else. It is said that if you don't pay your debt, the debt will continue forever and it will be the same the next coming year. During Chinese New Year, everything we do must bring the meaning of auspicious. Be it the daily conversation or the words we use. Conversation about ghosts and death is said to be inauspicious and must be avoided at all cost because you are not in a campfire. It is best not to even mention the word 'four' in Chinese or Cantonese because it sounds similar to the word 'death'. If you ever notice, during Chinese New Year, the ornaments and decorations used is usually in red as Chinese believe that red brings them luck and wealth [see also: Origins of Chinese New Year]. Hence, the first two days especially, people tend to wear red or something that is bright in color in order to reflect the mood of the festive celebration as well as being auspicious. It is also said that to ensure you'll have a sweeter year ahead, eat more sweet food like candies, cookies and sweets. That is why every household you visited, there is sure to be something sweet on the table. These are those of the things you should take note on if you want to avoid from being scolded by your grandparents.

My stressful life...

Yeah, yeah, my blog is all about complaining right now but if I do not unload all my heartaches and headaches and stress, my depression (however mild or mid) it is will become severe...

I'm living with my MIL as many of you know it. She is 70 years old, but still strong and independent. My MIL is a very strong minded woman, the self acclaimed matriarch of the family. She wants to be the boss and everyone else must bow to her whims and fancy. She is also a very fussy woman. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of times when she can be just so nice and friendly but step on the wrong side of her and there'll be hell to pay. I just know that because I've mis stepped many times and had my head almost bitten off.

My eldest daughter, Talia can tell you that too as she too quickly became a victim since she did not understand all the rules, protocols and face-saving stuff she had to do in the house.

I'm a working mother. My day starts as early as 5am. I wake up to tidy up a little in the kitchen. Plates, cups, etc. Then I sit town to unwind a little, catch a rerun of "House" and in between, maybe do the laundry, boil some hot water for my daughter to take her bath and then wake her up at about 6.15 am, give her her milk, bathe her, help her dress and take breakfast and so on... wake my husband up to send our daughter to school, then hie off to work.

I come back drained out and still have to keep any dried laundry, fold them, and MIL will be looking to pick on me on any utensils or frying pans or rice cooker I missed washing out. She is not working, spends her day at home or going to see her son , nearby or her grandchildren and bitches about me not helping her manage the house if I do not wash the frying pan or rice cooker she used.

It stresses me out to see the food in the house going to the bins as well. She likes to cook a lot and then throw away the excess which I feel is such a waste, especially with people all around the world who are starving and victims of natural disasters and such. I have gotten fed up of cooking at home since practically no one eats. I do not like eating rice, and when I cook dishes, a lot of it is left over , no matter how little I cook , and 90% of the time MIL does not want to eat my cooking anyway, and it frustrates me.

Then by then I am so flat out tired and stressed that when my daughter goes to sleep at 8.30 pm, 80% of the time, I nod off too...

I wish I could have a maid but with her fiery temperament and fussiness, none of the maids that comes our way stays working with us for more then a couple of months. Almost all of them are terrified of her. Oh, my dragon MIL will not beat the maid or lay a hand on the maid but she would threaten them and also snap at them, and well, she hates it when my husband or I treat the maid nicely or ask them to eat with us. To her the maid is a maid and they are no better then slaves. And she feels that she treats them very fairly since she lets them wake up at 7 and sleep by 10 or 11 and feed them well. What she does not think of is the mental torture she inflicts on others and even yours truly...

I just feel so relieve when she is not around when I come home from work (whether she is in her friend's house, her other son's house or so) because everytime she is around, I feel like a cat on a hot tin roof...where the slightest wrong step can get me into trouble.

Well, I really do not know how long I can tolerate this but I'm trying my best to stay calm and peaceful though I am suffering from depression and it frustrates and stresses me even more but well, I suppose life goes on and I'll just carry on as I can until the day I collapse.. or more...

Depression....

I'm depressed.. I'm suffering from depression, I muttered the other day in front of my sister in law and my mother in law and guess what? They just glared at me and told me that if I say that then I was not a strong person. I am weak. It seems to be a shameful thing to be depressed. Or a taboo. They said I had no cause to be depressed. After all, I have a husband, a loving one , an adorable daughter, people around me, a comfortable life, enough money and yes, they are right, but I just can't help how I feel?? And I just can't help how my body feels?

I've been diagnosed suffering from depression before and my doctor put me on Xanax once upon a time several years ago. I am however not taking any medication currently , preferring to bury my stresses and depression in my books. Still, I can't help feeling really tired of life and often wish God would take me away from it soon, even if I do love my husband and children. Does this makes me selfish?

My husband is not much help in that topic if I raise it up with him. He would just say that prayers are the answer and remedy. Many people , and people whom are suppose to care for us ACTUALLY DO NOT understand us especially when dealing with such things as depression.

Just today's newspaper, I read that a mother, after an argument with her husband, just went and throw her daughter off the 7th floor in a shopping mall and jumped off the same floor. I guess that's just what happens when no one understands us or rather how depression can overcome some of us and make us do stupid things.

I for one, if I get over depressed I start cracking up and even start self harming, not because I enjoy it but rather because I just can't take it any more... It could be hitting my head on the wall, or slashing my wrists and thighs with a sharp object to make scratches or even draw some blood... some people might think I'm crazy but it's just me... my problem with coping with depression and worse... no one who can truly understand me as even my own family member think it's a shameless thing and a taboo to talk about it. And to talk about it means I have no self control and that I am weak...

My reply is yes, maybe I am, but so what? I am not afraid to admit it and I need help....

And here is what I found on the internet anyway on depression to share with whomever who reads my blog and also suffer from depression....

Depression - What is it?

Depression is a condition that can take many forms, from the short lived feelings of sadness that most of us suffer in response to disappointments of everyday life, right up to severe depressive disorders which require treatment.

A depressive illness is an overwhelming feeling which dulls thinking, impairs concentration, saps energy, interest in food, sex, work and everyday activities and disrupts sleep.

Depression - How to Recognise It

The symptoms of DEPRESSION are as follows:

• F eeling - depressed, sad, anxious or bored

• E nergy -tired, fatigued, everything an effort, slowed movements

• S leep - waking during the night or too early in the morning, oversleeping or trouble getting to sleep

• T hinking - slow thinking, poor concentration, forgetful or indecisive

• I nterest - loss of interest in food, work, sex and life seems dull

• V alue - reduced sense of self-worth, low self esteem or guilt

• A ches - headaches, chest or other pains without a physical basis

• L ive - not wanting to live, suicidal thoughts or thinking of death

If 5 or more of the above FESTIVAL (acronym) symptoms are present for more than 2 weeks, it probably is a depressive episode.

What Causes Depression?

Depression is frequently preceded by set-backs in life, such as bereavement, relationship or financial difficulties, problems at work or medical illness. We all react to loss with a sense of disappointment which in its impact can vary from mild to disabling. An inherited tendency towards depression is a major factor in determining how depressed a person will become following a loss.

Don't you think this is the consequences of ignoring depression???

A woman hurled her four-year-old daughter from the seventh floor of a Hong Kong shopping mall before leaping to her death, the latest in a string of murder-suicide attempts, police said on Monday.

The young girl survived the Sunday afternoon's incident after landing in a net below, and suffered no serious injuries, police said.

But her 41-year-old mother crashed through the net intended to prevent rubbish falling on pedestrians below and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The family had been eating lunch at the mall, and some reports said there was a heated argument between the child's parents shortly before the incident.

The South China Morning Post, citing police, said the mother had no history of mental illness and the family did not have a background of domestic violence.

Last week, a mother reportedly suffering from post-natal depression plunged to her death along with her two-month-old baby after jumping from the family's flat.

In January last year, a man threw his 30-month-old niece out of an apartment window before leaping to his own death.

Girlie Wisdom

Just saw this on one Facebook friend's notes and she tagged me and I think it's so nice so I'm having it put here on my blog to share with those who read my blog...

1. A friend of mine confused her Valium with her birth control pills... she has 14 kids but doesn't really care.

2. One of life's mysteries is how a 2-pound box of chocolates can make a woman gain 5 lbs.

3. My mind not only wanders, it sometimes leaves completely.

4. The best way to forget your troubles is to wear tight shoes.

5. The nice part about living in a small town is that when you don't know what you are doing, someone else does.

6. The older you get, the tougher it is to lose weight because by then, your body and your fat are really good friends.

7. Just when I was getting used to yesterday, along came today.

8. Sometimes I think I understand everything, and then I regain consciousness.

9. I gave up jogging for my health when my thighs kept rubbing together and setting fire to my knickers'.

10. Amazing! You hang something in your closet for a while and it shrinks 2 sizes!

11. Skinny people irritate me! Especially when they say things like, "You know, sometimes I forget to eat!" Now, I've forgotten my address, my mother's maiden name and my keys, but I have never forgotten to eat. You have to be a special kind of stupid to forget to eat!

12. The trouble with some women is that they get all excited about nothing... and then they marry him.

13. I read this article that said the typical symptoms of stress are eating too much, impulse buying, and driving too fast. Are they kidding? That's my idea of a perfect day!

Have a great day, beautiful ladies.

Smile

Pictures taken at the KL Butterfly park... my daughter and I went there for the first time and she loved it there... she loves to see all the butterflies fluttering around but then again she is also afraid of them... Geli.....

(I love this song.... I dedicate it to my little girl...)

You're better than the best
I'm lucky just to linger in your life
Cooler than the flip-side of my pillow (that's right)
Completely unaware
Nothing can compare to where you send me
Let's me know that it's okay (yea, it's okay)
And the moments when my good times start to fade

[Chorus:]
You make me smile like a sun, Fall outta bed
Sing like a bird, Dizzy in my head
Spin like a record, Crazy on a Sunday night
You make me dance like fool, Forget how to breathe
Shine like gold, Buzz like a bee
Just the thought of you can drive me wild
Oh, you make me smile

Even when you don't
Somehow you come along just like a flower pokin through the sidewalk crack
And just like that
You steal away the rain
And just like that

[Chorus]

Don't know how I lived without you
'Cuz everytime that I get around you
I see the best of me inside your eyes
You make me smile
You make me dance like fool, Forget how to breathe
Shine like gold, Buzz like a bee
Just the thought of you can drive me wild
Oh, you make me smile

[Chorus]

the dolphin and sealion show

A cute logo on the ticket.... My daughter loved it..

a picture in front of the dolphin pool... kinda feel sorry for the animals because in the duration of the show, and for the entire two months, the two stars of the show had only such a small cramped area to swim in.

One of the sea lions doing his thing.... and applauding himself...

The two dolphins....

Took my daughter a couple of weeks ago to see the dolphin and sea lion show. The team was apparently from Indonesia as the trainer spoke Indonesian to the dolphins.
My daughter loved it and she got a 'kiss' from the dolphin while taking a photo which she was so excited and amused she couldn't stop talking about it for days....
